Most connectors are not interchangeable between traditional fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles. The electrical requirements differ significantly: fuel vehicles typically operate at low voltage (12V) and low current (5–10A), while new energy vehicles require high voltage and high current handling, along with stricter insulation standards to ensure safety.

Key differences in electrical requirements

• Fuel vehicles: Low voltage (12V) and low current (5–10A) systems, such as DIN connectors used for engine compartment power supply.
• New energy vehicles: High voltage and high current systems, such as XT60 series connectors rated for 30A continuous and 60A instantaneous current.
• Insulation standards: New energy vehicle connectors must comply with IEC 62196 high-voltage insulation standards, with a withstand voltage of ≥2500V, to prevent leakage risks.

Exceptions and signal connectors

Only a few signal connectors, such as M8 types, are universally applicable across both vehicle types. These are typically used for low-power signal transmission rather than power delivery.
